Is your Instagram looking different lately?
Instagram has switched things up (again). Instead of the classic square grid, posts now appear in a rectangular 4:5 aspect ratio.
So posts from the old square format will be cropped and your profile grid may look slightly off.
Annoying - but with a few tweaks, you can keep your grid fresh, professional, and on-brand - without needing to start from scratch.
Check your old posts to see if they still look good. If they do, leave them as is.
For Reels, you can edit your cover. Tap the 3 dots on the top right and select ‘Edit’ and then ‘Cover’ on the cover preview to upload a new one in the new format.
For Posts, you can tweak how they appear. Tap the 3 dots in the top right and select ‘Adjust Preview’. From there, you can reposition or fit (this will add white or black above and below). This is available for Reel covers too.
If important posts still look a little off, re-design them to fit the new format and re-post.
Use the pinned post feature to make a strong first impression on your grid.
Moving forward - aim for a more organic mix of posts that feel cohesive, but also work well on their own - checkerboard or grid patterns might not flow as seamlessly with this new shape.
There is a silver lining to these changes - taller posts will actually give you more real estate in the feed, so all is not lost!
